Meter Read and Feet Painted (Sally) - July 1st

Set the alarm for seven as we had an appointment for a new electricity meter. Expected between 08:00 and 13:00 hours.

I tried to sand some bumps off the wall by hand - a thankless task and decided eventually to wait until I get a new sander. Yesterday the old mouse had made a strange sound and decided to come apart. Also, yesterday, the larger multi-tool went judder, judder, judder and the end fell off. Fixed it - judder, judder, judder and the end fell off. Then I realised you had to turn the ‘key’. Fixed. After sanding by hand eventually I decided to give it up as a bad job.

Right, I decide to do something more relaxing and enjoyable - Project' Serena’s room'. Time being tight and not wanting to buy curtains until the room is properly redecorated, I cut cardboard to fix over the glass of the doors. Sounds awful. Put it-in place, fixed with good old masking tape and thought ... ooh, that would look better white. It does.

Before I finished, the doorbell rang at about 10:45. It was the electrician, Jose, here to change the meter. Nice guy who spoke excellent English. He was Portuguese and humoured my attempts at French.

Poor chap must think I am mad, whilst he was here, I went to put the lid on the paint, trod on the lid to make sure it was secure and in went my foot straight into the paint. I burst out laughing, what else could I do? Strangely, hardly any paint on my foot. Washed my jelly shoe, I knew they were a good buy and this proves it. I then had to clear up the mess, which was surprisingly easy to do

Jose left instructions and said if we had problems, he is the only English speaking electrician.

I felt shattered and zonked out for what seemed like ages.

After lunch - I stripped some horrible sticky-backed plastic out of the cupboards in Serena’s room. Did a bit of paper stripping on the stair well. Found a couple of dead black bees and a dead hornet. I am glad the hornet was dead; I wouldn’t have liked disturbing a live one!

Had another chicken salad with a homemade dressing -not bad. The strawberries I bought yesterday are rather lacking in taste and I always seem to find a couple of mouldy ones at the bottom of the punnet.

Skyped my Andy for about the sixth time today. I then had a shower.

I then decided to strip the bathroom ceiling - easy, peasy. Why I didn’t do this before showering is anybody’s guess. Aah, it is in case the bin men come tomorrow, but I notice folk have put out their other bin! Duh, should have checked first. Oh well, another job ticked off my list.

A glass of wine, another shower and then write this.

I will skype Andy before bed.xxx
