Buckets and Buckets of Soil, 13th July

Just realised, we’ve already been here over a week. We seem to have been very busy, but progress seems limited.

Today one of our neighbours agreed to take 16 bucket load of excess top soil that we have in an old ‘flower-bed’ on the garage roof. Trouble is, we have around 60 bucket loads in total to dispose of. The decehterie doesn’t take soil so it will be a matter of taking it into the countryside to dump. Humping 16 buckets full down the stairs, across the street and up 15 feet to the neighbours' terraced garden was enough for one day though; I may finish the job tomorrow – at least the bagging and storing in the garage until we can dispose of it. I need to get it cleared before we lay the roof felt.

A little over half of the soil to be moved is visible here - looks a lot more when it is bagged up.

The rest of the day was spent, for me, giving the main ‘tool’ garage a thorough tidy-up, and finishing the day by removing and cleaning the u-bend in the garage sink. Then into our new shower before dinner.

Sally painted the fittings for the 1st floor balcony shutter with Hammerite and then spent the rest of the day up stepladders, painting the ceiling of our bedroom.

Oh, and we did succumb to a post-lunch snooze. After 7 long, hard, days. I think we’d earned it.

Tomorrow is Bastille Day. Normally an occasion of great celebration in Uzerche (as in the rest of France. With Covid-19, I fear it will be much muted this year.
